Building Careers. Changing Lives: The Power of Workplace Learning

Matthew Skellorn began his Business Administration apprenticeship at Blackpool & Fylde College. Having experienced one year in full time education, he found this was not the correct path for him and began searching for workplace learning opportunities. Matthew applied for the Lantei Apprenticeship Scheme in 2017 and embarked on a journey during which he garnered invaluable experience while completing his course.

Matthew has certainly experienced many elements of Lantei, being given the chance to work in various departments, discovering how he could best utilise his strengths to succeed. Initially, Matthew was given an insight into the inner workings of Lantei on Helpdesk, where he worked in a sales administration capacity, processing orders, and liaising with the planning team for further information. Moving on, he had the opportunity to operate in Accounts and Marketing. With the latter, Matthew found his calling. He began working on The Electrical Safety Network division as a Lead Generator, where he grew bookings by over 50%. Having gained the skills and experience, Matthew progressed to our Lantei Learning division where he became Centre Coordinator, which resulted in him being awarded Apprentice of the Year in 2018 at our internal recognition event. From invigilating examinations to maintaining clear lines of communications with learners, his aptitude for organisation and developed people skills leaves nothing to be desired.

Having success with both entities of the business, meant he was announced the winner of the Sub36 Awards ‘Apprentice of the Year 2019’ category while also becoming a finalist for the Lancashire Business View ‘Customer Champion Award.’

“I have worked with Matthew for several years and have witnessed his growth as a person. His determination to succeed and enthusiasm has not wavered throughout his career with Lantei. Matthew is continuously learning, taking advice on board to enhance his ability, and completing his apprenticeship whilst gaining experience of the workplace means he has definitely got a very bright future ahead of him.”

Krishan Parekh, Head of Marketing

This bright spark is showing no sign of slowing down, completing his Level 3 apprenticeship with 90% distinction in his exam, and developing key skills and behaviours to support his progression towards management responsibilities. His established skillset is highly transferable, applicable to a vast array of roles. Matthew has just celebrated his fourth Lantei birthday and continues to grow in conjunction with Lantei Learning each day, giving the customer the best experience possible when visiting our Preston training centre. With this qualification under his belt, Matthew is ready to take on any challenge.
